While our design strategies adapt to each project, our work is characterised by open, flexible, sun-lit spaces connecting intelligently between interior and exterior; imaginative spatial organisation to fit the needs and aspirations of contemporary life; and determination to work creatively with context and place.
We believe design develops best through dialogue. We encourage our clients to actively engage throughout the design process, taking part in the crucial stages of creating a new building.
Based in Mallorca since 2000 we have concentrated on sustainability as an essential framework for our designs. We understand sustainability not only as a means to reduce the waste of resources and energy but also as a way to tie our designs into their context – houses designed for Mallorca and no where else, reinterpreting local materials, design strategies and relationships from an utterly modern perspective.
The warmth of the winter sun, and its glaring heat in summer, the cooling sea breeze across the site or the Tramuntana gales all call for designs which control the conditions of the home while accentuating the superb natural qualities of Mallorca. For these reasons, our design for a self-sufficient house in a fig orchard was recognised with the Mallorca Architecture Prize for best house, by the Balearic Chapter of Architects. It also featured on Channel 4’s Homes by the Med.
Harris Architects & Designers are always interested in new residential projects, if you are interested in our work or would like to enquire about our residential process please contact us.
