Harris Architects specialises in designing contemporary houses.
Our new houses are designed from the perspective of sustainability and economy of means and connect with the qualities of place which are unique to each site. We focus on the use of natural light, open-plan spaces and the integration of interior and exterior and our design work has been noted for the contemporary reinterpretation of local materials and building types.
Building on broad experience in private and public housing in the UK, our work in Mallorca focuses on the requirements of modern life and the opportunities for contemporary design inspired by Mallorca’s climate, materials and culture.
In Mallorca our work has included both new town and country houses.
We strive for design excellence in all our work, choosing to keep our practice small to enable us to concentrate on all aspects of our projects in detail.
Our efforts have been recognised by the Oficial Chapter of Architects who awarded Harris Architects the Mallorca Architecture Prize for best house completed from 2007-10. Our work has also has been published internationally and was recently featured on television in the UK and Spain.

Our design work takes inspiration from Mediterranean houses across the ages, but draws particularly on the designs of some of the 20th century’s most significant architects. In-depth and in-situ research into some of the Mediterranean’s most exceptional houses is fundamental to our approach. Examples include Jorn Utzon’s Can Lis, and Bonet Castellano’s La Ricarda. We combine our designwork and research with architectural teaching at various architecture schools in Barcelona.

In the UK we have worked for private clients including Trust House Forte and the National Trust, as well as housing associations, award-winning self-build schemes and health-care and education projects. In Mallorca we work mainly with private clients, both international and those based on the island.
